Hansgrohe AG will be participating in no fewer than four German projects running during the world expo in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31. In addition to the German Pavilion and the City of Hamburg representative office (“Hamburg House”), the company will also be a partner in the energy-plus house “GECC German Energy Center & College Shanghai” and in the “House of Innovations”.
Under the motto “Better City, Better Life”, the EXPO staged in the Chinese metropolis will show how living conditions in big cities and urban environments can be improved in the future. With its products and technologies, Hansgrohe AG will be highlighting the role played by the efficient and sustainable use of water in this endeavor. “The responsible use of this resource will be gaining in importance worldwide. With our water-saving products and technologies, we can demonstrate how water can be used better, that is, more efficiently and in an energy-saving manner, without any loss of comfort or quality of life,” explains Siegfried Gänßlen, Chairman of the Board of Directors Hansgrohe AG.

Partner in sustainability projects
Hansgrohe is a sponsor of China’s first certified passive house, the project with which the City of Hamburg will be presenting itself at the world expo. The “Hamburg House” will feature the water-saving mixers of the Hansgrohe Metris S line of products. A special arrangement has been made for the house to remain after the world expo closes and to be used in future for education purposes and for exhibitions. Hansgrohe will also be represented at the “Market of Products” held inside the building. Mixers from the Hansgrohe PuraVida line will exemplify that conservation of resources and aesthetics are not mutually exclusive.

Knowledge transfer to Chinese skilled workers
Hansgrohe entered into yet another partnership with the project “GECC German Energy Center & College Shanghai”. Together with 27 other companies, Hansgrohe is facilitating the construction of the energy-plus house by supplying its own products. Additional technologies to enhance efficiency will be presented in the combined exhibition and training rooms. The products will remain at the center for another three years after the world expo and will serve as training aids for Chinese trainees, students and engineers. “As an international company operating in the sanitary ware industry, we see it as our role to raise consumer awareness with regard to responsible use of water as a resource,” says Siegfried Gänßlen. “Proactive participation in projects such as the ‘German Energy Center & College Shanghai’, which will remain in operation and will disseminate knowledge and information even after the close of the world expo, is therefore a high priority for us.”

The Schiltach-based mixer and shower manufacturer will also be represented in the neighboring “House of Innovations”. The focus in both these projects is on conveying information about innovative technologies aimed at enhancing the efficiency in the use of water and demonstrating ways they can be deployed.

Combining form and functionality
The combination of design and innovative water-saving technologies achieved in the Hansgrohe products also persuaded the organizers and planners for the German Pavilion. Called “balancity”, the pavilion explores the idea of achieving a perfect balance within a city. The mixers and showers in the Hansgrohe PuraVida line harmonize well with the pavilion’s overall concept. They combine future-oriented German design with innovative technologies, making them ideal objects for exhibition. The “Made in Germany” design is also presented in the form of the multi-award-winning Axor Urquiola bathroom collection, with the wash basin and the mixer from this collection being exhibited in the German Pavilion at the EXPO Shanghai. The Federal Ministry for the Economy and Technology is responsible for the German Pavilion.
