At the “International Contemporary Furniture Fair” (ICFF) held in New York from May 15 until 18 – one of the most important design fairs in the world – Axor will be presenting its successful Axor Urquiola collection to the U.S. public for the first time. The bathroom collection was created for the designer brand of the Black Forest-based bathroom and sanitary ware specialist Hansgrohe AG by the Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola. Following the successful market launch in Europe, the collection will now be offered in the United States. “In Europe, this combination of feminine design and German technology has proven to be a winner with architects, designers and consumers," says Philippe Grohe, head of the designer brand Axor. His brother Nicolas Grohe, Director Product Planning & Development for Hansgrohe North America, anticipates a similar reception in the U.S. market. “The east and west coast, in particular, are strongly focused on European design in terms of style and taste.”

Axor Urquiola is the first complete bathroom collection created by the Spanish designer. What is special about it is that the innovative products often perform more than a single function. The handles of the wash basin, for example, serve as towel holders, and the paravent is both room divider and radiator. “Patricia Urquiola's concept illustrates the bathroom design of tomorrow. Her approach consistently dissolves the separation of bathroom and bedroom. Her products are highly individual, yet they take the personal preferences of the users into account, at the same time as leaving plenty of scope for them to be complemented with personal additions," explains Philippe Grohe.

Outstanding design travels the world
This exceptional bathroom collection also was awarded by the German Design Council. For its traveling exhibition "Design Deutschland 2010”, the German Design Council chose Axor Urquiola as an example of outstanding German design. At the ICFF, this exhibition showcases new products from successful German brands as well as prototypes from emerging young designers. The aim of the exhibition is to give German design worldwide exposure by featuring first-class products. This is why the new “PuraVida” mixers and shower program from the Black Forest-based bathroom and sanitary ware specialist Hansgrohe is included in the exhibition.

New York is the second stop for the traveling exhibition. In April it had already been presented to visitors at the Milan Furniture Fair. Here Hansgrohe AG had a booth at the “Salone Internazionale del Mobile”. Three of the designers collaborating with Axor were on hand to present their collections in person: Antonio Citterio introduced the latest development of his award-winning collection Axor Citterio, the bathroom collection created by French designer Jean-Marie Massaud was exhibited as part of the rich and varied range of Axor collections, and Patricia Urquiola was there to present her sensual bathroom ambiance.
