"Water is an irreplaceable foodstuff and therefore a fundamental public good", it says in the final report of the German Federal Parliament’s fact-finding commission "Globalisation of the World Economy". Yet at the same time – the report continues – 1.2 billion people have no access to clean drinking water and at least 500 million people suffer from acute water shortage or lack of water. It is no coincidence that this year's International EXPO 2008, which takes place from June 14 to September 14 in the Spanish city of Zaragoza, stands under the motto of "Water and Sustainable Development".

Hansgrohe AG, whose headquarters is in Schiltach/Black Forest, is participating in Zaragoza. As the internationally renowned bathroom and sanitaryware specialist announced on the occasion of tomorrow's International Day of Water, the company will exclusively fit out the German Pavilion "wunderbar" at EXPO 2008 with innovative sanitary technologies that make a major contribution to sustainable handling of the resource and the valuable food water. "Better use of water", said Klaus Grohe, CEO of Hansgrohe AG, "has long been a concern of ours. We not only offer relevant technologies, but also see it as our job to create awareness in the population of the preciousness and the importance of the scarce good water." With the involvement in this year's International Expo, he said, Hansgrohe AG can demonstrate solutions for urgent questions regarding the elixir of life water and thus actively promote sustainable water management. The involvement in Zaragoza, like the Hansgrohe Water Symposium held in mid march in Schiltach, is an essential component to make the vital importance of the element water clear to a broad public.

It was no coincidence that the choice of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Technology, the host of the German EXPO Pavilion, and the organisers from exhibition company Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH fell on the Black Forest fittings and shower manufacturer. After all, as it says in a bulletin of the German Pavilion, the idea is to use the "forward-looking technologies" presented in the "wunderbar" to provide an "overview of the performance and innovative spirit of German companies and institutions" in the area of eco-friendly water management.

Taking centre stage at Hansgrohe AG’s participation in the German presence at EXPO 2008 is the water recycling technology of its subsidiary Pontos GmbH. Pontos AquaCycle systems  treat shower and bath water for reuse using purely biological and mechanical processes without chemical additives.  The clear water produced in this way is hygienically clean and can be used for all applications where drinking water quality is not required, for example for flushing toilets. With treatment capacities from 600 up to 30,000 litres and more per day, Pontos AquaCycle systems are equally suitable for single family houses and for entire housing estates, hotels and businesses.

EXPO 2008 takes place from June 14 to September 14 in Zaragoza/Spain. More than 100 nations and organisations will participate in the international exhibition, at which around six million visitors are expected.
